“Brother, sister, let me serve you ...”
SUE TAYLOR’S Dad was a churchwarden, at St Faith’s Church, Waterloo, Liverpool where she was born and brought up until leaving home at 18 for Manchester and nursing training at Manchester Royal Infirmary - (in the days of starched white aprons and regulation shoes!)
Married to David (for 40 years in 2012) the couple have 3 beautiful daughters, “our gifts from God” - and now 2 adorable grandchildren.
After training Sue went on to work for 26 years at our local St Ann’s Hospice, as a Staff Nurse from 1984 and eventually retiring from the position of Clinical Services Manager, “the old Matron figure!”, in 2010.
Sue looks back with deep gratitude upon a career in which she was privileged to meet many wonderful patients and their families, and hopefully make a difference on their final journey. Sue has spoken twice at Manchester Cathedral’s Tree of Lights Service, and her favourite hymn whilst working at the hospice: Brother, sister let me serve you. “It just seemed to sum up why we were there!”
The arrival of grandchildren meant that Sue looked forward to a cheerful and restful retirement. Cheerful she certainly is but the “restful” will come later. Having been involved in pastoral ministry for most of her life Sue Taylor was an outstandingly obvious candidate for the office of churchwarden at St Michael’s. Working closely with Fr Simon, fellow churchwarden Ralph Luxon, and a wider ministry team too, Sue’s days are full and busy. You’ll often find her in and around St Michael’s on weekday mornings.
No surprise, then, that Sue finds our (silent) Monthly Monday Meditation a real anchor-point in her life.
